London weighting for conservation officers
London pay in local government is delivered through separate GLPC Inner and Outer London pay spines rather than a flat national supplement; the Civil Service Defra ALB carries an Inner London cell on its grade pay table (typically c.£4,000), and the bigger NGOs mostly run a separate London allowance.
GLPC London pay spines (in force, April 2025)
London boroughs apply separate Inner and Outer London pay spines, each point set above the national spine. At a typical conservation-officer grade the effective uplift over the national point is roughly £4,000-£6,000 (Inner) and £2,900-£4,000 (Outer). Where a borough instead keeps staff on the national spine and pays a separate London allowance, the GLPC APT&C figures are £4,319 (Inner) and £2,301 (Outer) from 1 April 2025.
Civil Service Defra ALB Inner London
Defra core and the ALBs publish separate Inner London cells on the grade pay table. The Inner London uplift varies by grade but is typically £3,500-£4,500 at EO-HEO, narrowing slightly at G7. Note that some ALBs apply London weighting only if the post-holder's substantive base is in a Greater London building.
NGO London allowances
RSPB, Wildlife Trusts (London Wildlife Trust), National Trust and other NGOs typically run their own London allowance, between £3,000 and £4,500 for posts based in London. There is no sector-wide schedule.
